Pasta Shells with Ground Beef

This spicy Latin American style beef pasta dish is unusual and tasty. It’s real comfort food and has a homestyle appeal. It is also very easy to make.

Ingredients

  • pounds ground beef
  • 4 cups water
  • Red Sazon and/or Sazon Perfecta, for seasoning (see notes)
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 can Rotel tomatoes
  • 2 cups uncooked pasta shells
  • 4 tablespoons granulated tomato broth
  • 2 tablespoons granulated chicken broth
  • 3 minced serrano chili peppers
  • ½ chopped yellow onion
  • Garlic powder, to taste
  • Onion powder, to taste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef in a large skillet until cooked, and then drain off the excess grease.
  2. Stir in the Sazon and black pepper.
  3. Cook the pasta for 5 minutes, then drain.
  4. Stir the pasta into the beef mixture, add all the other ingredients and stir.
  5. Cover and simmer gently until the pasta is tender, then discard the bayleaf and serve.
