Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Making your buttermilk biscuits from scratch is a unique experience. Mixing the ingredients and feeling the buttery aroma that spreads during baking can’t be replaced with store-bought mix. And let’s not forget about the irresistible flavor. The flaky homemade biscuits smothered with strawberry jam are perfect for every day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tablespoon Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ½ Salted Butter
  • 1 ¼ cup Buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. Mix all-purpose flour, baking powder, and baking soda in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the flour. It is essential to use cold butter for making buttermilk biscuits, as it will melt during baking and help create lovely layers.
  4. Pour the buttermilk slowly and mix in the flour. Don’t overmix your dough, resulting in stiff and hard biscuits.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface. Roll it to a half-inch thickness and cut out the biscuits using a biscuit cutter.
  6. Stack them on a greased baking sheet and place them closely. This will help the biscuits rise more.
  7. Bake them for 10-12 minutes, and enjoy them warm with butter on top!
