Tres Leches (Milk Cake)

This cake is so moist, sweet and delicious. If you’ve enjoyed a great tres leches cake at a restaurant and want to recreate this classic dish, you’ll be pleased to find out how easy it is, and you might even agree the flavor is even better than the restaurant version!

  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 24 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 12 ounces evaporated milk
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease and flour a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.
  2. Sift the flour with the baking powder.
  3. Beat 1 cup of white sugar with an electric mixer and then beat in the eggs and ½ teaspoon vanilla.
  4. Now you can beat in the flour mixture, about ½ cup at a time, until well blended in, and pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  5. Bake for half an hour or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
  6. Use a fork to poke holes all over the cake and leave it to cool down to room temperature.
  7. Now mix the 3 different milks together and pour this over the cooled cake, letting it soak in.
  8. Whip the cream with the rest of the sugar and vanilla in a chilled metal or glass bowl until thick, then spread over the cake.
  9. Refrigerate the tres leches cake until serving.
