Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Brown sugar meatloaf is a classic comfort food with a delightful twist. By incorporating brown sugar into the glaze, this recipe balances the savory flavor of ground beef with a subtle sweetness that caramelizes beautifully on top.
Course: Dinner, Holiday, Lunch, Main Course
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • pounds ground beef chuck
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • teaspoons salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 package dry onion soup mix
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¾ cup Italian bread crumbs

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a casserole dish with foil.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, ketchup, and 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce. Divide this mixture evenly into three separate bowls and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the minced garlic, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, milk, eggs, salt, pepper, dry onion soup mix, ground ginger, bread crumbs, and one portion (1/3) of the prepared brown sugar-ketchup mixture.
  4. Add the ground beef to the bowl and mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  5. Shape the mixture into a loaf. Spread one portion (1/3) of the brown sugar-ketchup mixture on top of the loaf.
  6. Carefully place the meatloaf, brown sugar-ketchup side down, into the prepared casserole dish. Spread the remaining portion (1/3) of the mixture over the top of the loaf.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the meatloaf’s juices run clear and an internal thermometer reads 160°F (71°C).
  8. Remove from the oven and let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
  9. Enjoy!
