  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cocoa powder for batter
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder for topping
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water

Method

Preheat Oven & Prepare Pan:
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
Make the Batter:
  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, self-rising flour, sugar, and 1 1/2 tablespoons cocoa powder. Slowly add the milk and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth.
Spread Batter:
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
Add Cocoa Powder & Boiling Water:
  1. Sprinkle the 1/4 cup cocoa powder evenly over the batter. Carefully pour the boiling water over the top — do not stir.
