Fried Apple Pies

These portable treats, in contrast to conventional baked pies, have a golden, crispy crust that contrasts beautifully with their warm, gooey apple filling. Ingredients
  

  • 1 pot of cooked apples sweetened and spiced to your taste
  • Sugar to taste
  • Spices cinnamon, cloves, apple pie spice, to taste
  • Pie crust dough or puff pastry sheets store-bought or homemade
  • 1 egg for egg wash, optional

Method
 

Preheat Oven
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Prepare Filling
  1. In your pot of cooked apples, add sugar and spices (cinnamon, cloves, apple pie spice) to taste. Stir well and let the mixture cool slightly.
Prepare Dough
  1. Roll out your pie crust or puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into rectangles or circles, about 4–5 inches wide.
Fill the Pies
  1. Place a spoonful of the apple filling onto one half of each dough piece, leaving a border around the edges.
Seal the Pies
  1. Fold the dough over the filling to form a pocket. Press the edges firmly with a fork to seal.
Apply Egg Wash (Optional)
  1. Beat the egg and brush the tops of the pies with the egg wash for a golden, shiny finish.
Bake
  1. Arrange the pies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
Cool and Serve
  1. Let the pies cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm on their own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
