Course: Appetizer, Side Dish
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 head cabbage chopped
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 5 strips bacon cooked and crumbled
  • Reserved bacon grease
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Cook the bacon in a skillet until crispy. Remove and set aside to cool, reserving the bacon grease.
  2. In a large skillet or deep-sided pot, heat the reserved bacon grease over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium-low, then add the chopped cabbage. Stir well, cover, and let simmer until the cabbage is tender, about 8–10 minutes.
  5. Season the cabbage with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Continue to sauté uncovered for 2–3 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  6. Top the cooked cabbage with the crumbled bacon and serve warm.
  7. Enjoy!
