The best goulash

This classic American-style goulash is a true all-in-one meal—rich tomato sauce, tender ground beef, and perfectly cooked pasta come together in a dish that’s both satisfying and budget-friendly.
Course: Dinner, Lunch, Main Course
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 28 oz can diced tomatoes undrained
  • cup frozen corn
  • 8 oz can tomato sauce
  • 4 oz can diced green chiles
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro chopped

Method

Cook the macaroni:
  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water, then set aside.
Brown the beef:
  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully browned and the onions are soft. Drain any excess grease.
Add the sauce ingredients:
  1. Reduce heat to medium. Stir in the diced tomatoes (with their juice), tomato sauce, frozen corn, diced green chiles, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything together until well combined.
Simmer:
  1. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 10 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.
Combine with pasta:
  1. Add the cooked macaroni to the skillet and stir until the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce.
Finish and serve:
  1. Stir in the chopped fresh cilantro right before serving for a fresh, bright flavor. Serve hot and enjoy!
  2. Enjoy!
