Fusion dishes don’t always work out the way you hope but you can’t go wrong with this exciting recipe that blends everything you like about Philly cheesesteak with your favorite parts of sloppy joes.

The combination of sweet and savory, with a little spice thrown into the mix too, will really make your mouth water and your taste buds sing! It makes a nice dinner for busy weeknights and is also an appealing option for game day or any kind of gathering or get-together.

Beef with garlic, peppers and onions is flavored with tomato sauce and shredded cheese and this mixture is served on a pillowy bun for the ultimate comfort food dinner. It’s something the kids will love just as much as the grownups (and you can even get away with sneaking some extra veggies in there).

Why You’ll Love the Recipe:

This recipe is perfect if you want something quick and simple for a busy weeknight supper. It’s also great if you can’t decide between sloppy joes and Philly cheesesteak flavors!

How to Serve It:

Enjoy this hot, perhaps paired with fries, chips or a salad.

Can You Make It Ahead?

You can make it ahead but don’t assemble the meat and buns until ready to serve.

Storage Instructions:

Leftovers will keep for up to 4 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Variations and Substitutions:

Provolone or mozzarella work well here but you might like to use another kind of cheese such as Swiss or Emmentaler.

Ingredients:

  • Ground beef
  • Red bell pepper
  • Green bell pepper
  • Yellow onion
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Beef broth
  • Minced garlic cloves
  • Provolone or mozzarella slices
  • Toasted burger buns or brioche buns

How to make Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes:

Step 1. Brown the beef in a skillet over a moderate to high heat, then drain off the grease.

Step 2. Stir the onions, garlic and bell peppers into the beef.

Step 3. Cook until the vegetables are tender.

Step 4. Stir in the broth, balsamic vinegar, worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper.

Step 5. Bring the mixture to a boil then cover and simmer for 10 minutes.

Step 6. Spoon some of the beef mixture over each bun bottom and add the cheese and bun tops, then serve hot.

This tasty recipe appeals to adults and kids alike, and in fact it’s perfect for anyone who enjoys beef. It’s hearty, has bold flavors and might very well win its way into your regular meal rotation.
