If you like cinnamon donuts, you’re going to get very excited about this simple sweet bread recipe. This isn’t your ordinary bread. This one has cinnamon sugar donut flavors in every bite. The kids will love it and so will the grownups. Perhaps this will become your new guilty pleasure!

It’s really easy to make and will fragrance your kitchen with cinnamon as it’s baking to warm, fluffy perfection in the oven. Don’t be surprised if everyone races to the kitchen to find out what smells so good.

This versatile sweet bread can be served whenever you wish, for breakfast or brunch, as a snack, or even for dessert. You can enjoy it buttered or not, depending how indulgent you are feeling. A sweet bread is typically yeast-based and takes time to rise, while donuts usually have baking powder instead for a pillowy, fluffy texture.

If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make your own by mixing ½ teaspoon of white vinegar or lemon juice with ½ cup whole milk.

How to make Cinnamon Sugar Donut Sweet Bread:

Step 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2. Combine the butter, white sugar and oil in a bowl and then stir in the vanilla extract and eggs until smooth.

Step 3. Now add the buttermilk gradually and the dry ingredients bit by bit, mixing and scraping down the bowl sides to get a smooth batter. Keep mixing until there are no lumps.

Step 4. Put ½ cup of the batter in a small bowl, mix in the cinnamon and molasses, and set aside.

Step 5. Grease a loaf pan with nonstick spray.

Step 6. Spoon half the main batter into the loaf pan and use a wide spatula to level it out.

Step 7. Add half the molasses batter on top.

Step 8. Add the rest of the main batter on top of that and finish with the rest of the molasses batter.

Step 9. Swirl the batters together using a butter knife and bake for 45 to 50 minutes.

Step 10. Let it cool for 10 minutes in the loaf pan and then loosen the edges and transfer it to a wire rack.

Step 11. To make the coating, put the melted butter in a dish and mix in the brown sugar, white sugar and ground cinnamon, stirring well.

Step 12. Dip the loaf into the coating, making sure all 6 sides are covered. You can also spoon it over the edges of the loaf and the top.

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon molasses
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup buttermilk

  • ¼ cup white sugar
