Are you looking for a simple dish that can be a stand-alone meal? The baked chicken noodle casserole is exactly that. Simple, delicious, and comes with a variety of ingredients. This is the kind of dish that I would prepare on a busy weekday with some of the ingredients prepared before. And the best thing? You have everything within one single dish. I love it when I don’t have to prepare a side dish to complement the main dish. This dish has delicious chicken, noodles, and creamy sauce.

It is a perfect choice for a simple dinner or a dish to bring you to your next potluck.

The crunchy chicken casserole is one of those dishes that you can prepare ahead of time and eat right before serving. I like to prepare my chicken ahead of time and have it in the fridge. But you can also get some rotisserie chicken from your local grocery store and shred it to pieces. Yes, it is that easy. Then, you have to lay the ingredients and let the oven do the rest. French fried onions are one of the secret ingredients for deliciousness. Yes, they infuse this casserole with tons of flavor.

Ingredients

  • Chicken, cooked and shredded
  • Egg noodles, cooked according to package directions
  • Cream of chicken soup
  • Sour Cream
  • Garlic Powder
  • Cheddar Cheese, freshly shredded, divided
  • French Fried Onions

How to make Crunchy Chicken Casserole:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 10-inch baking dish.

Cook the noodles according to the package instructions and transfer them to a bowl.

Add sour cream, shredded chicken, soup, half cheese, and garlic powder. Mix well until combined.

Pour the mixture into the greased baking dish and bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.

Remove from the oven and add the remaining cheese and french-fried onions.

Bake for 10 more minutes. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

How to enhance this recipe?

Feel free to add some veggies to add additional flavor to this recipe. Green beans are an excellent choice, since you can also go with carrots. But feel free to also use broccoli or your other preferred vegetables. You can always add some crunchy bacon for a smoky touch.

What to serve it with?

As I said, the crunchy chicken casserole is a delicious stand-alone meal. However, you can serve it with a light side dish. A fresh salad is my go-to choice for this dish. You can either go for leafy green stuff in a zesty dressing or tomato and cucumber salad. Make sure to keep it light and simple so it doesn’t overpower the creamy nature of the chicken casserole. And there you have it, a complete dinner idea that doesn’t take much time and effort.
