Salisbury steak has been a great family dinner since way back to the 1950s when they were served as TV dinners. If you love a good meaty steak but you aren’t so keen on the current high prices, you might love this Salisbury steak recipe. 

It’s made with the much more affordable ground beef along with a variety of seasonings and flavors to make it truly delicious. Whether you know these as Salisbury steaks or juicy hamburger steak patties, you will enjoy making them because they’re so easy and everyone will find them very tasty.

Pair these hamburger steaks with anything from mashed potatoes to egg noodles and then add a vegetable or two to the plate to finish this dinner off and make every bite really satisfying. Even the kids will love these because they’re more like burgers than steaks.

Variations and Substitutions:

You can omit the mushrooms from the gravy mixture if you wish. Just sub extra mushrooms. Also, you can try making this recipe with ground pork in place of beef if that’s your preference. 

Ingredients:

  • Ground beef
  • Olive oil
  • Egg
  • Onion
  • All-purpose flour
  • Garlic powder
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Bacon
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

FOR THE GRAVY:

  • Chopped onion
  • All-purpose flour
  • Brown gravy mix
  • Water
  • Sliced mushrooms
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

How to make Hamburger Steak Patties:

Step 1. Put the meat, egg, half a chopped onion, garlic powder, breadcrumbs, bacon, and some salt and black pepper in a bowl.

Step 2. Knead the mixture with your hands until well combined.

Step 3. Shape the meat mixture into 4 equal-sized patties and dip them in the flour.

Step 4. Heat the oil in a skillet over a moderate to high heat.

Step 5. Brown the patties on both sides, then set them to one side.

Step 6. Add one chopped onion to the skillet and turn the heat down a bit.

Step 7. Cook until the onion is softened.

Step 8. Now whisk ¼ cup of flour with a cup of water and pour this mixture into the skillet.

Step 9. Add the gravy mix and worcestershire sauce, then season to taste.

Step 10. Add the mushrooms to the pan along with the beef patties.

Step 11. Cover and simmer gently for 20 minutes, then serve right away.
