Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Whether you prefer your biscuits with sausage or bacon gravy ladled over them or spread with butter and jam or jelly, this recipe is versatile enough to suit any of your preferred toppings. You only need 5 ingredients for them: butter, buttermilk, flour, baking soda, and baking powder.

With just those basic ingredients, you can whip up these delicious biscuits. The buttermilk adds a lovely tang to them. If this isn’t an ingredient you usually use, add 1¼ teaspoons of either white vinegar or lemon juice to 1¼ cups of whole milk and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Apart from that ingredient which we don’t all keep in the refrigerator, everything else you should have, so you can get on with making these delicious homemade biscuits right away. They are amazing served warm from the oven and everyone is going to love them.

Some people like to add a large pinch of sugar to the scones, perhaps a teaspoon or two. This is up to you. You could add some shredded cheese and dry mustard for another flavor.

  • All-purpose flour
  • Buttermilk
  • Baking powder
  • Salted butter
  • Baking soda

How to make Buttermilk Biscuits:

Step 1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.

Step 2. Mix the dry ingredients together.

Step 3. Cut the butter into slices and rub it into the flour using your fingers.

Step 4. Slowly pour in the buttermilk and mix until only just combined.

Step 5. Knead the resulting dough on a floured work surface.

Step 6. Roll out to ½-inch thickness and cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter.

Step 7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
