- 1 ½ pounds of Ground Beef, lean
- ½ cup Onion, chopped
- ¼ cup Green Bell Pepper, chopped
- 1 cup Ketchup
- 1 tbsp Brown Sugar
- 2 tsp Yellow Mustard
- 2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
- ½ tsp Garlic Powder
- 12 Slices American Cheese
- 6 Hamburger Buns Toasted, OR
- 6 slices Texas Toast Bread
Instructions
- Lay the toasted bread on a baking tray. If you’re using hamburger buns, place them with the inside side up.
- Toast for 1-2 minutes under the broiler per side. Remove and set aside.
- Add ground beef, onion, and green bell peppers to a skillet.
- Cook until the meat is brown and the vegetables are tender.
- Drain the excess fat and reduce to low heat.
- Add the ketchup, Worcestershire, garlic powder, and yellow mustard.
- Mix and cook for 5 to 10 minutes. Your filling is done when the sauce thickens.
- Add a slice of American cheese over each piece of bread or bun. Return under the broiler and let it melt for half a minute.
- Divide the beef mixture evenly among the bread or buns. Add another piece of American cheese on top and broil again for half a minute to melt the cheese. Serve and enjoy.
