Homemade Sloppy Joe

The Sloppy Joes are a classic recipe for a busy weeknight dinner. The hearty and comforting meal is done within 30 minutes, perfect if you don’t have enough time to prepare a feast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ pounds of Ground Beef, lean
  • ½ cup Onion, chopped
  • ¼ cup Green Bell Pepper, chopped
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 2 tsp Yellow Mustard
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • ½ tsp Garlic Powder
  • 12 Slices American Cheese
  • 6 Hamburger Buns Toasted, OR
  • 6 slices Texas Toast Bread

Instructions

  1. Lay the toasted bread on a baking tray. If you’re using hamburger buns, place them with the inside side up.
  2. Toast for 1-2 minutes under the broiler per side. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add ground beef, onion, and green bell peppers to a skillet.
  4. Cook until the meat is brown and the vegetables are tender.
  5. Drain the excess fat and reduce to low heat.
  6. Add the ketchup, Worcestershire, garlic powder, and yellow mustard.
  7. Mix and cook for 5 to 10 minutes. Your filling is done when the sauce thickens.
  8. Add a slice of American cheese over each piece of bread or bun. Return under the broiler and let it melt for half a minute.
  9. Divide the beef mixture evenly among the bread or buns. Add another piece of American cheese on top and broil again for half a minute to melt the cheese. Serve and enjoy.
