Homemade Turtle Candy with Pecans and Caramels

The turtle candy is a real hit for both adults and kids. If you ask us what is the best thing about this recipe, we will say it has an easy prep and fantastic flavor. The luscious chocolate, luxurious caramel, and nutty flavor of pecans create a symphony of flavors. The turtle candies have a rich, delightful flavor that reminds us of our childhood.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 64 Pecan halves
  • 11 oz. Baking/cooking caramels
  • 1 Bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Parchment paper or a silicone baking mat

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Take four pecan halves and form an X shape on the parchment paper. Repeat this with the remaining pecan halves. Make sure you leave some space between each X.
  3. Add the caramels into a microwave-safe bowl and add a tablespoon of water. Melt in the microwave for 30 seconds. Remove, stir, and repeat if needed until your caramel is melted and no chunks are visible.
  4. Add a tablespoon of the melted caramel over the center of each egg shape you made with pecans. Make sure the center is covered.
  5. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave. Go for 30-second increments, stirring between each, until your chocolate chips are melted with no visible chunks.
  6. Add melted chocolate over the caramel in the center. Place the baking sheet with your prepared candy into the freezer. The melted chocolate and caramel would take about half an hour to set. Remove from the freezer and enjoy!
