There’s something truly magical about an old-fashioned peach cobbler. The warm aroma of baked peaches and buttery crust filling your kitchen instantly transports you back to simpler times. This classic dessert is the kind of recipe that brings families together, evokes childhood memories, and leaves everyone asking for seconds. Whether it’s a lazy Sunday afternoon or a holiday gathering, this peach cobbler is comfort food at its finest. The combination of tender, juicy peaches with a golden, slightly crispy crust creates the perfect balance of sweet and buttery flavors that make this dessert irresistible.

Why Do I Love This Recipe?
I love this old-fashioned peach cobbler because it’s simple yet unbelievably satisfying. It uses basic pantry ingredients, yet the end result tastes like it came from a bakery. The juicy, slightly tangy peaches paired with a soft, buttery topping create a flavor that feels nostalgic and indulgent. It’s the ultimate dessert to enjoy fresh out of the oven, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting on top. There’s something comforting about the way the sweet peach juices mingle with the lightly browned crust—pure homemade goodness that makes every bite memorable.

Serving Suggestions:
Peach cobbler is incredibly versatile when it comes to serving. You can enjoy it warm on its own, or take it to the next level by topping it with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or even a drizzle of caramel sauce. For a brunch twist, serve it alongside a dollop of Greek yogurt or mascarpone cheese. It also pairs beautifully with a hot cup of coffee or a glass of cold milk for a classic southern-style treat.

Storage & Freezing:
This cobbler keeps well for 3–4 days when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. To reheat, simply warm it in the oven for 10–15 minutes to bring back that freshly baked texture. You can also freeze the cobbler before baking—just cover it tightly with foil and freeze for up to 2 months. When ready to enjoy, bake it straight from the freezer, adding an extra 10–15 minutes to the baking time.

Variations of the Recipe:
While this version uses fresh peaches, you can easily substitute frozen or canned peaches if needed. Adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the topping or peaches adds extra warmth and depth. For a crunchy twist, sprinkle chopped pecans or almonds on top before baking. You can even make mini cobblers in ramekins for individual servings—perfect for parties or gifts.

Old-fashioned peach cobbler is timeless, comforting, and endlessly customizable—a dessert that always brings a smile to the table.

Course: Dessert, Snack, Treat
Cuisine: American
Ingredients Method

Ingredients

  • 1 28-ounce can peach pie filling
  • 1 ½ cups fresh peaches sliced and pitted
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ stick butter melted

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 13×9-inch baking dish with melted butter.
Layer the peaches:
  1. Pour the canned peach pie filling into the prepared baking dish. Slice your fresh peaches, remove the pits, and layer them evenly over the pie filling. Sprinkle the brown sugar on top for extra sweetness and caramelization.
Prepare the batter:
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the self-rising flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract. Slowly whisk in the milk until the batter is smooth and slightly thick.
Assemble the cobbler:
  1. Pour the batter evenly over the peaches in the baking dish. Do not stir—the batter will bake into a golden, fluffy topping while the peaches bubble underneath.
Bake:
  1. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and set.
Serve:
  1. Allow the cobbler to cool slightly before serving. Scoop into bowls and top with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate classic dessert.
  2. Enjoy!
