Smothered Pork Chops

Southern Smothered Porkchop is a traditional and hearty dish. Perfect to serve during family gatherings and even on simple dinner, it consists of pan-fried pork chops coated in savory and creamy sauce.

Ingredients

  • ¾ C. Flour divided
  • 4 Bone in pork chops
  • 1 Onion sliced
  • 2 C. Chicken broth
  • 4 tsp. Minced garlic
  • C. Heavy whipping cream
  • 3 Tbsp. Olive oil
  • ½ tsp. Garlic powder
  • ½ tsp. Onion powder
  • 3 Tbsp. Butter
  • 2 tsp. Paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Add garlic powder, onion powder, paprika and salt and pepper to taste to a small bowl. 
  2. Season the pork chops with the seasoning mixture. 
  3. Dredge the seasoned pork chops in ½ cup of flour. 
  4. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium high heat on the stove. 
  5. Sear the pork chops evenly on both sides in the skillet, and then set aside. 
  6. Place the onions in the same skillet, and lower the temperature to medium. 
  7. Saute until the onions have softened. 
  8. Stir in the garlic, and saute for 1 minute. 
  9. Mix in the remaining flour, and saute for 1 minute. 
  10. Whisk in the 2 cups of chicken broth a little at a time. 
  11. Return the pork chops to the skillet and toss to coat well in the gravy.
  12. Reduce the heat to medium low , cover and simmer for 25-30 minutes until the pork chops are cooked through. 
  13. Pour in the heavy whipping cream, and simmer for another 3 minutes before serving.
