Apple Fritters

March 13, 2026 //  by Ann

There’s something irresistible about the sweet, crispy, and warm aroma of apple fritters straight out of the kitchen. These golden, tender pastries are a perfect combination of soft dough, tender chunks of apple, and a sweet glaze that melts in your mouth. Apple fritters are the ultimate comfort treat—they’re sweet, slightly spiced with cinnamon, and absolutely satisfying with every bite. For me, they’re more than just a dessert or breakfast item; they’re a memory of cozy mornings and homemade goodness.

Why I Love This Recipe

I love this apple fritters recipe because it’s simple to make and delivers bakery-quality results at home. Unlike store-bought versions, these fritters are fresh, tender, and packed with real apple flavor. The dough is soft and pillowy, the apple pieces add natural sweetness, and the glaze gives a shiny, irresistible finish. What makes this recipe truly special is how it balances textures and flavors—the crisp exterior, soft interior, and slightly tart apples make every bite a little moment of joy. It’s a recipe that brings people together, whether you’re making it for breakfast, a snack, or dessert.

Serving Suggestions

Apple fritters are incredibly versatile when it comes to serving. They’re perfect on their own with a cup of coffee or tea, making them a wonderful breakfast treat. You can serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert, or sprinkle with powdered sugar for a more refined presentation. For a fun brunch idea, pair them with scrambled eggs and bacon or alongside a warm bowl of oatmeal. They also make a delightful snack on-the-go or a treat for kids after school.

Freezing and Storage

Apple fritters are best enjoyed fresh, but they can be stored and reheated without losing their charm. Let the fritters cool completely, then store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, wrap each fritter individually in plastic wrap or foil and freeze for up to 2 months. To enjoy, reheat in the oven at 350°F for 5–10 minutes until warm and slightly crisp. The glaze can be drizzled fresh after reheating to keep it shiny and sweet.

Variations

One of the joys of apple fritters is how adaptable the recipe is. You can experiment with different apple varieties—Granny Smith for a tart kick, Honeycrisp for sweetness, or Fuji for a balance of both. Add a touch of nutmeg, allspice, or cardamom to the dough for a warming spice note. For a richer version, mix some cream cheese into the glaze or drizzle with caramel sauce. You can even make mini fritters for bite-sized treats or stuff them with raisins, nuts, or even chocolate chips for extra indulgence.

Apple fritters are more than just a pastry—they’re a comforting, flavorful treat that feels like home in every bite. With a soft interior, crisp exterior, and sweet glaze, this recipe is perfect for any occasion, from breakfast to dessert. Easy to make, delicious to eat, and endlessly customizable, these apple fritters are a must-have in any kitchen.

Ingredients Method

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 ⅔ cups peeled and finely chopped apples
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted melted butter
  • Oil for frying
  • Confectioners’ sugar for garnish (optional)

Method

Heat the oil:
  1. Pour a few inches of oil into a deep-sided skillet or pot and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the batter:
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Blend on high speed until smooth.
Add wet ingredients:
  1. Mix in the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until fully incorporated. Stir in the melted butter and blend again for a smooth batter.
Fold in apples and spice:
  1. Gently fold in the finely chopped apples and apple pie spice until evenly distributed.
Fry the fritters:
  1. Carefully scoop ⅓ to ½ cup of batter into the hot oil. Use a spatula or cooking spoon to press it slightly flat. Fry until golden brown on one side, then carefully flip to brown the other side and allow the fritter to puff up.
Drain and serve:
  1. Remove the fritters from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined rack to drain excess oil. Repeat with the remaining batter.
Garnish:
  1. Optionally, sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar while still warm for a sweet finishing touch. Serve immediately.
  2. Enjoy!
