Amish Broccoli Salad

April 4, 2026 //  by Ann

There’s something special about recipes that feel like they’ve been passed down through generations — simple, practical, and made to feed a crowd. Amish Broccoli Salad is exactly that kind of dish. It’s humble, wholesome, and packed with flavor in every crisp, creamy bite.

This salad brings together fresh broccoli florets, smoky bacon, sharp cheese, and a sweet-and-tangy dressing that ties everything together beautifully. It’s the perfect balance of textures — crunchy, creamy, savory, and slightly sweet all at once. The dressing lightly coats each piece of broccoli without overpowering it, allowing the freshness of the vegetables to shine through.

What I love most about this salad is how it transforms simple ingredients into something memorable. It’s not fancy. It doesn’t require complicated steps. Yet every time it appears on the table, it disappears quickly. It’s the kind of dish you’ll find at potlucks, church gatherings, backyard barbecues, and holiday tables — and for good reason.

Amish-style recipes are known for being hearty, comforting, and made with care. This broccoli salad fits that tradition perfectly. It’s sturdy enough to make ahead, which actually improves the flavor as it chills. The longer it sits, the more the dressing soaks into the broccoli, creating that signature creamy-crisp texture everyone loves.

Whether you’re serving it alongside grilled meats in the summer or adding a fresh side to a comfort-food dinner, this salad is dependable, crowd-pleasing, and incredibly satisfying. It’s proof that sometimes the simplest recipes are the ones we come back to again and again.

Why Do I Love This Recipe?

I love this recipe because it’s fresh yet indulgent at the same time. It gives you that satisfying crunch from the broccoli, paired with smoky bacon and creamy dressing. It’s easy to prepare, can be made ahead, and always gets compliments. Plus, it’s one of those rare salads that even picky eaters enjoy.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve alongside grilled chicken, burgers, or ribs
  • Pair with baked ham or roasted turkey
  • Add to picnic or potluck spreads
  • Spoon next to sandwiches for a hearty lunch
  • Serve chilled as part of a holiday buffet

It’s best served cold after chilling for at least an hour.

Storage and Freezing

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Stir before serving to redistribute the dressing.

Freezing is not recommended, as the mayonnaise-based dressing can separate and the broccoli will lose its crisp texture.

Variations of the Recipe

  • Add sunflower seeds for extra crunch
  • Stir in raisins or dried cranberries for sweetness
  • Use red onion for extra bite
  • Swap cheddar for Colby Jack
  • Lighten it up with Greek yogurt in place of some mayonnaise

Simple ingredients, classic flavor, and always a favorite at the table.
