Sweet Alabama Pecan Bread is a prime example of the kind of Southern baking that appeals to the heart. This bread blends the gratifying crunch and nutty flavor of toasted pecans, a mainstay in Southern kitchens, with the rich, buttery sweetness of a classic quick bread. This type of bread promises warmth and comfort with each bite and fills your house with an enticing aroma. This pecan bread feels like a tiny bit of Southern hospitality and tradition, whether it’s served for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack in the afternoon with a steaming cup of tea.

Why Do I Love This Recipe?
I love this recipe because it’s straightforward and yields a loaf that’s moist, tender, and perfectly sweetened, with just the right amount of crunch from the pecans. The balance of flavors is impeccable, and the texture is soft enough to enjoy plain but sturdy enough to hold up with butter or cream cheese. It’s also incredibly forgiving, making it perfect for both experienced bakers and beginners. Every time I make this bread, it reminds me of the cozy kitchens of Alabama and the joy of sharing homemade treats with loved ones.

Serving Suggestions
Sweet Alabama Pecan Bread is delicious served warm with a pat of butter or cream cheese. It also pairs beautifully with jams, honey, or even a drizzle of maple syrup. This bread makes a wonderful accompaniment to coffee or tea and is a crowd-pleaser at brunches or potlucks. For a decadent treat, try toasting a slice and topping it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an easy dessert.

Storage & Freezing
To keep the bread fresh, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or store it in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, you can freeze the bread by wrapping it well in plastic wrap and then foil. Freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to eat, thaw overnight in the refrigerator or on the counter, and warm it slightly before serving to bring back that fresh-baked flavor.

Variations of the Recipe
Feel free to add raisins or dried cranberries for a fruity twist, or swap pecans with walnuts or almonds to change up the nutty flavor. Adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg to the batter can introduce a warm spice note that’s perfect for cooler months. For an indulgent version, fold in mini chocolate chips for a sweet surprise in every slice.

Course: Baking, Dessert, Snack, Treat
Cuisine: American
Ingredients Method

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs beaten
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 ½ cups self-rising flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups pecans finely chopped

Method

Preheat the oven:
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
Mix sugars and eggs:
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and beaten eggs. Beat well until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
Add oil and vanilla:
  1. Slowly add the vegetable oil and vanilla extract to the sugar and egg mixture. Mix until fully incorporated.
Incorporate flour:
  1. Gradually stir in the self-rising flour. Mix just until combined — do not overmix, or the bread may become tough.
Fold in pecans:
  1. Gently fold the finely chopped pecans into the batter until evenly distributed.
Bake the bread:
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Smooth the top with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool before slicing:
  1. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
  2. Enjoy!
