Fire Crackers

April 1, 2026 //  by Ann

Fire Crackers are one of those bold, addictive snacks that instantly bring back memories of parties, game nights, and casual gatherings. Simple to make yet packed with flavor, these seasoned crackers are tossed in oil and spices, then left to soak up all that goodness until every bite is crunchy, savory, and just a little bit spicy. They’re the kind of snack you set out on the table—and suddenly they’re gone before you know it.

This recipe has roots in Southern-style entertaining, where easy, make-ahead snacks are a must. Fire Crackers became especially popular because they require no baking and use pantry staples. Saltine crackers, a blend of spices, and oil come together to create something far greater than the sum of its parts. Over time, they’ve become a go-to recipe for potlucks, road trips, and holiday snack spreads.

What makes Fire Crackers so special is their texture and flavor. The crackers stay crisp while soaking in a zesty mixture of ranch seasoning, garlic, red pepper flakes, and other spices. The result is a bold, tangy, slightly spicy bite that keeps you reaching for more. They’re incredibly versatile too—you can easily adjust the heat level or seasoning based on your taste.

Another reason this recipe stands out is how effortless it is. There’s no oven required, no complicated steps—just mix, toss, and let time do the work. It’s perfect for busy days when you want something homemade without the hassle.

Why Do I Love This Recipe?

I love this recipe because it’s incredibly easy and packed with flavor. The combination of crunch and spice is irresistible, and it’s one of those snacks you can’t stop eating.

Serving Suggestions

Serve Fire Crackers as a snack on their own or alongside dips like ranch or cream cheese spread. They’re great for parties, game nights, or as a crunchy topping for soups and salads.

Storage and Freezing

Store the crackers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. They stay crisp and flavorful. Freezing is not recommended, as it can affect their texture.

Variations of the Recipe

You can adjust the spice level by adding more or less red pepper flakes. Try different seasoning blends like Cajun or taco seasoning for a twist. You can also use oyster crackers or mini saltines instead of regular ones for a fun variation.

Ingredients Method

Ingredients

  • 1 box saltine crackers
  • 1⅔ cups olive oil
  • 2 packets ranch seasoning mix
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons red pepper flakes adjust to taste

Method

  1. Open a large 2-gallon resealable plastic bag and place it in a bowl or container to help keep it steady while mixing.
  2. Pour the olive oil into the bag.
  3. Add the ranch seasoning mix, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  4. Seal the bag tightly and gently shake or massage it until all the seasonings are fully combined with the oil.
  5. Carefully add the saltine crackers into the bag. Try to keep them as whole as possible when placing them inside.
  6. Seal the bag again, making sure all the air is removed.
  7. Gently turn and rotate the bag several times to coat all the crackers evenly with the seasoning mixture. Take your time so the crackers don’t break.
  8. Lay the bag flat and let it sit at room temperature overnight (at least 8–12 hours).
  9. During this resting time, flip or turn the bag a few times so the seasoning redistributes and soaks evenly into all the crackers.
  10. The next day, open the bag and give the crackers one final gentle toss.
  11. Serve immediately or transfer to an airtight container for storage.
  12. Enjoy!
