Serve with a dipping sauce for a tasty appetizer that amazes your guests, or add a side of french fries for a kid’s meal.

What makes this recipe so unique?

The southern tuna patties  reflet the love the South has for fried foods. It is a simple and easy family meal that both adults and kids enjoy. When served with a complementary dipping sauce it becomes the perfect appetizer for gatherings.

Ingredients needed:

  • Tuna
  • Onion
  • All-purpose flour
  • Cornmeal
  • Egg
  • Mayonnaise
  • Oil for cooking
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Can I substitute canned tuna?

If you want to add a twist to this recipe feel free to opt for canned salmon. It is the perfect alternative if you want to experiment and try new flavors.but you can also go with a salmon filet if you prefer fresh food. In that case you don’t need to make changes in the recipe.

Which dips to serve it with?

Fish can be tricky when it comes to pairing with dipping sauces. We can recommend a tasty tartar sauce or homemade tzatziki. Anything that is creamy and tangy goes well with the crispy tuna patties. Therefore you can also stick with lemon dill sauce. The ones that like spicy foods can whip up a spicy mayo dip or sriracha aioli for that extra fiery kick.

How do you keep tuna patties from falling apart?

The egg binds the patty mixture and prevents it from falling apart. During cooking, the egg will firm and bind the whole mixture so make sure not to omit it.

What to serve the tuna patties with?

Tuna patties go well with a wide range of side dishes. Serve them with roasted baby potatoes for a hearty dinner prepared with lots of love. A refreshing salad is perfect if you want to pair it with something lighter. Homemade coleslaw and creamy cucumber salad are also great picks.  Pasta salad also works fine if you’re looking for something different.

Alternatively, you can squish the tuna patties in a bun and prepare a nice burger. Layer some iceberg lettuce and tartar sauce to enhance the flavor and create the perfect balance. Serve with a side of french fries and you have an easy meal for the whole family.
